Use cases

How forestry teams use ForestrPro.

Five kinds of operation, and what a working week can look like for each one. These are examples of how the features fit together, not promises about your results.

Tree planting contractor

Jobs, species, daily counts and rates

A planting contract arrives with a map, a species mix and a rate per tree. The crew plants across several sites, and every tree has to be accounted for.

Uses: planting jobs and sessions, job maps and refill points, offline maps, dashboard planting report.

  1. Import the client's map as a GeoPDF, and set up the job with its species, planned numbers and rates.
  2. Mark the planting area and refill points on the job's map.
  3. Each planter starts a session on site, records trees per species and pauses for breaks.
  4. Totals for the day and week, trees per hour and the recorded value build up as they work.
  5. Link the job to a team project so the office follows progress in the dashboard and exports the figures.

Forestry harvesting contractor

Work areas, progress and timber locations

Harvesting crews, forwarders and hauliers need the same picture: where the work is, what's done and where the timber is stacked.

Uses: projects with site hazards, tasks, timber stacks, pins, shared map data.

  1. Create a project with the site's access notes and hazards, and share the maps and boundaries with it.
  2. Mark harvesting boundaries, extraction routes, loading points and restrictions as pins.
  3. Create felling, harvesting and forwarding tasks and assign them to crews.
  4. Record timber stacks where they're made, so collection knows where to go.
  5. Follow progress and review completed tasks in the dashboard.

Windblown tree clearance

From storm damage to signed-off clearance

After a storm, fallen trees block rides and roads across the estate. Reports come from everywhere, and the clearance needs organising quickly.

Uses: windblown-tree and blocked-road pins, "From records" task creation, task review, photos.

  1. Whoever finds a fallen tree drops a windblown-trees or blocked-road pin, with photos.
  2. A manager raises windblown clearance tasks from those records and sets priorities.
  3. Crews claim or are assigned tasks, and update progress as they clear.
  4. Completed tasks wait for review, with photos of the finished work, before being approved.

Vegetation management

Populations mapped, inspected and cleared

Invasive species such as rhododendron are cleared over several seasons, and each site needs re-visiting to see what has come back.

Uses: vegetation records, inspections and surveys, GIS import and export, clearance tasks.

  1. Import existing survey data from QGIS, or map populations as points and areas on site.
  2. Record what you find, with condition, size, counts and photos.
  3. Raise vegetation clearance or invasive removal tasks from the records.
  4. Inspect the same records on the next visit; their history shows how the population is changing.
  5. Export surveys as CSV, GeoJSON and photos for reporting.

Woodland manager

Compartments, surveys and contractors in one view

A woodland manager coordinates several contractors and needs to know what's happening in each compartment without being on site every day.

Uses: forests and compartments, team projects, the dashboard, QGIS export.

  1. Set up forests and compartments, with their status and work history.
  2. Invite contractors to the team and share the maps and boundaries with each project.
  3. Review surveys, tasks and planting progress from the dashboard.
  4. Export the season's records to QGIS for reporting and planning.

ForestrPro supports your operations. It doesn't replace your safety procedures, regulatory requirements such as felling licences, or the professional judgement of the people on site.
