GPS position missing or inaccurate

What to do when the blue dot doesn't appear, the accuracy circle is large, or a GPS track stops recording while the screen is off.

  • No blue dot: ForestrPro needs precise location. Tap Allow location or Allow precise on the map, or go to More → Settings → Open app permission settings. If the map says Device location is turned off, tap Turn on.
  • Large accuracy circle: under thick canopy, in steep valleys or indoors, GPS is less accurate. Wait a minute in a clearing for the fix to settle. Tap the panel at the bottom to see how many satellites are in use.
  • A track stops while the screen is off: your phone's battery saving is stopping the app. Open Records → GPS tracks → Open app settings and set battery use to Unrestricted.
  • No track notification: notifications are off for ForestrPro. Recording still works, but turn them on in Android's settings to see and control it.

ForestrPro only uses the phone's GPS receiver, never Wi-Fi or mobile-network positions, so a position always comes from satellites.
