Import a PDF map or GeoTIFF for offline use

Add a georeferenced PDF map (GeoPDF), a GeoTIFF such as an aerial photo, or a ZIP of maps to the Maps library. ForestrPro prepares it once and then it works with no signal.

ForestrPro uses georeferenced maps, which know where they are on the earth: geospatial PDFs (for example exported from QGIS or ArcGIS Pro) and GeoTIFFs, such as aerial photos. A plain scanned PDF or image can't be placed on the map.

  1. Save the PDF or GeoTIFF (or a ZIP of several maps) on your phone, for example from an email or cloud storage.
  2. Go to More → Maps library.
  3. Tap Import map and choose the file.
  4. ForestrPro checks the file, then prepares it for offline use. You can carry on using the app while it works; progress shows on the map's card.
  5. When it's ready, tap Show on map.

Tip: import maps while you still have Wi-Fi or a good signal, before heading out. Once prepared, they work with no connection at all.

A GeoTIFF must be in British National Grid (EPSG:27700), Irish Grid, UTM, Web Mercator or WGS84. If it's refused because of its coordinate system, compression or very large strips, save it again from QGIS (Export › Save As) in EPSG:27700, with LZW or DEFLATE compression and TILED=YES.

Organise your maps

Tap the ⋮ button on a map's card for Rename, Move to collection, Link to forest and Delete. Deleting a map removes only the map. Your forests and records aren't affected, and you can import the file again later.

A ZIP can also contain GIS data such as Shapefiles. The maps go into the Maps library; import the GIS data from More → GIS import and export, choosing the same ZIP. See Import GIS data.
