Write a risk assessment

For owners and managers: write a site or job risk assessment with scored hazards, controls and emergency arrangements, then publish it for the team.

  1. Choose Create a risk assessment (on the Risk assessments page, a project's page, or Write a risk assessment for this job on a job's page).
  2. Choose the project, and whether it covers The whole site or One job (choose the job, or describe it).
  3. Fill in the details and the Emergency arrangements: nearest A&E, the access point for the emergency services, first aiders and where there's a phone signal.
  4. Add each hazard: tap Add a hazard, or start from a common one (they come with typical controls to check and change). Say who might be harmed and the controls in place, and score the Likelihood and Severity from 1 to 5. If the risk is high, add further controls and score what remains.
  5. Tick the PPE needed, add any notes, then Save and publish (or Save draft to finish later).

Risk = likelihood × severity: 1–4 is low, 5–9 medium, 10–16 high, 20–25 very high. A draft is seen only by owners and managers.

The common hazards are suggestions to start from. Check each one against your own procedures and the site, and score it yourself.
