See your GPS position and accuracy

Find yourself on the map, follow your position as you walk, and check how accurate the GPS fix is. Includes what to do if no position shows.

Your position is the blue dot. The shaded circle around it shows how accurate the fix is: the smaller, the better.

  • Tap Go to my GPS position (the target button). The map centres on you and follows you as you walk, until you move the map yourself.
  • The panel at the bottom shows your coordinates and accuracy. Tap it for more: satellites, altitude, heading and when it was last updated.
  • The crosshair in the middle of the map is the map centre. Its coordinates are shown too, which is handy for reading off a grid reference.

Choose British National Grid or latitude/longitude in More → Settings → Coordinate format.

No blue dot?

  • Allow location or Allow precise on the map: ForestrPro needs precise location. Tap the button and allow it.
  • Device location is turned off: tap Turn on.
  • Indoors or under thick canopy, a fix can take longer and is less accurate. Step into a clearing if you can.

Phone GPS is usually accurate to a few metres in the open, and worse under trees. It isn't survey grade.
